Can You Wear False Eyelashes Over Lash Extensions?

Whether you have a costume party or special occasion coming up, sometimes it can be tempting to wear strip lashes on top of your eyelash extensions for a more dramatic look.
But is that such a good idea? Could it damage the extensions or even worst, the natural lash?

Eyelash Extensions Vs. False Lashes – Definition

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent fibers that are attached to your natural eyelashes to make them look longer, fuller, and darker. When you get individual lash extensions, you’d need a semi-permanent adhesive to connect a synthetic lash to each of your own lashes.
Depending on the studio, lash extensions can be from synthetic fibers, real or fake mink, or silk fibers. Most studios offer different lengths, curl patterns, and colors of extensions so that clients can make their own looks.
Strip lashes are a horizontal line of lashes attached to a fabric band – they’re applied with a removable adhesive and should only be worn for one day.

Why You Shouldn’t Put False Lashes on Your Lash Extensions

❗False Lashes Add Too Much Weight

Certified lash artists always make sure not to overload your natural lashes with extensions they can’t handle. When eyelash technicians add individual eyelash extensions, they aim for a delicate balance between the extension’s weight and your natural lashes’ strength. Adding strip lashes upsets this balance, putting stress on your natural lashes and potentially making them weak. The extra weight from strip lashes can even lead to lasting damage, so it’s important to be cautious.

❗False Lashes Damage Your Natural Lashes and Lash Extensions

Taking off false eyelashes can be hard on both the extensions and your real eyelashes. When you take off your false eyelashes, you will also have to take out your extensions.
Falsie glue is strong and tricky. It will pull out your natural lashes because it is too strong for the extensions to hold on to. You’ll want a fill even more than you did before you used the fakes. And you will also hurt your own eyelashes. The glue on the false eyelashes will also pull out your natural eyelashes, sometimes causing damage you can’t fix.

❗False Lashes on Lash Extensions Look Fake

Let’s be honest here. Eyelash extensions make false eyelashes look fake; you know what we mean. They look like a mess. Most people’s natural lash lines are curved, which doesn’t work well with straight strip lashes.
This makes them look fake and more like “falsies.” It can be really embarrassing when people ask if your eyelashes are fake. That is why you’d hear lash experts tell their clients to wear either strip lashes or eyelash extensions, but not both. Or, better yet, ditch the strip lashes and go for eyelash extensions.

❗False Glue Is Very Hard to Remove

The glue on your lash line will stay there forever. To get rid of false glue the right way, you need to use water and rub your eyes. But remember that you can’t rub your eyes if you have eyelash extensions because you’ll damage them.
You’d need to take off your extensions as you can’t take off the glue without hurting your extensions (and your natural lashes). So basically, you’ll have to live with the false eyelash glue on your lash line for weeks. This is until you can remove your extensions and safely remove the glue.

Are Lash Extensions Better than Strip Lashes?

There are pros and cons to both lash extensions and strip lashes and every person will have a different opinion as to which are better.
One of the pros that make lash extensions more appealing than strip lashes is they last 4-6 weeks. The beauty of this is you don’t have to do anything! You can wake up each day with beautiful lashes that make your naturally gorgeous eyes stand out. This saves you a ton of time and ensures you always look beautiful, rested, and ready to go.
While strip lashes also give a finished and polished look, they only last one day and then you have to put them on again the next day. Dealing with the adhesive can be daunting, but with strip lashes, you decide when you want them on and when you don’t.
Lash extensions are great for vacations because they can get wet. Strip lashes should not get wet, however, as they can fall off if submerged in water.

Say a BIG NO to STRIP LASHES OVER EXTENSIONS!

Falsies may seem like the answer to achieving gorgeous lashes, but combining them with lash extensions is a different story.
As mentioned, wearing falsies with lash extensions can cause more harm than good, so it’s important to read the pros and cons of extensions and falsies and choose the best (one at a time).
Ultimately, it’s best to avoid strip lashes over extensions and try alternatives such as handmade lash fans or volume eyelash extensions.
Remember, if you have lash extensions, say a big NO to strip lashes over them and instead get a lash fill to maintain the fullness during occasions.
